I have been participating in Usual since July, and I really enjoy it because it has the potential to bring incremental capital into the blockchain space. However, I’ve noticed that there have been many FUD voices in the community recently, so I want to share my thoughts.
As a stablecoin project, TVL (Total Value Locked) is everything. Continuous growth in TVL not only represents increasing returns but also signifies trust and influence. Many early-stage projects attract TVL by offering subsidies to users, but this approach is a double-edged sword. When the subsidies run out, users often leave as well. This led me to think: is there a way to provide subsidies to users while also ensuring their long-term interests, creating a more sustainable model?
This brought me to Morpho. Currently, Morpho provides pools for borrowing USDC by collateralizing USD0++ or USD0++/USD0. However, I have a question: why is the borrowing asset USDC and not USD0? Since USUAL is already a stablecoin project, wouldn’t it make more sense to use USD0 as the borrowing asset?
At the same time, I believe the project team should focus on supporting the Morpho pools to provide continuous liquidity, thereby lowering borrowing rates (e.g., reducing the rate from 19% to 15%). This approach could effectively benefit users engaged in recursive borrowing. More importantly, Morpho users are naturally filtered DeFi users. Compared to speculative users (who profit by driving up the price of $USUAL tokens), they are more willing to embrace the value that time brings.
Although the project team might earn slightly less in interest revenue, this trade-off can lead to an increase in TVL. I believe this is a more sustainable solution.

The Early Redemption fees will be partially redistributed to USUALx holders, as outlined in the Whitepaper. They will accumulate in the background and be redistributed in a few weeks (or less) and then it'll be fully automatic once the code is fully audited.

Some thoughts on the big picture. In the current environment it is easy to become obsessed with the USD0++ drama. As I've said in previous posts, this is an important factor that can affect protocol fundamentals. TVL driven by USD0++ farmers can't grow until USD0++ reaches $1. While I think USD0++ is attractive at current prices for long term investors, it is true that it becomes less and less attractive, even for a long term investor, as it approaches $1 UNLESS USD0 is growing independent of USD0++. But taking a step back, it is important to recognize that TVL growth through USD0++ was never going to make this protocol successful long term. USD0++ is a mechanism designed to help overcome the cold start problem. It distributes value among crypto natives but does not necessarily create value in and to itself. It was largely successful in its endeavor by growing USD0 from 0 to 1.5B. This level of TVL and the liquidity that comes with it are pre-requisites for adoption by the DeFi ecosystem and its really hard to get there without having a distribution advantage like Tether had with Bitfinex and as a first mover or like USDC had with Coinbase or like DAI had with ETH OG's and first mover advantage. We are now on the playing field and have an equity token with inherent value due to real cash flows. The next step are challenging ones but it is helpful to remember that stablecoins are in a secular bull market with their own value proposition aside from all the farming games. There are billions of people in the world whose lives and resilience would be much improved if they held some of their savings in USD0. There are trillions of dollars of commercial transactions that could be done more efficiently on public blockchains with transparent collateral stablecoins. There aren't many ways to invest in the equity of a stablecoin issuer and the wave of competition incoming won't be able to use equity tokens as an incentive.kiratsunami
