So, that's actually a good conversation. We obviously have a few ideas for Usual's chapter after this 4-year period, and unfortunately as you can guess, I can't share all of them haha.
Our main vision is that in 4 years:
- DeFi will be a lot bigger, a lot more mature and democratized
- A lot of testing & innovation will happen
- It is then not the best thing to program a protocol like Usual for life, at least in terms of incentives/rewards.
- At the same time, Usual will have launched various products, diversified streams etc.
So, the whole value accrual mechanism could completely shift, or be actually even more backed.
On thing to be sure:
- USUAL will always remain the center-piece of the protocol, even after that period - there is no need to worry about its long-term utility, the staking advantages and so on.
- Liquidity (if you're talking about DEXes) wouldn't really be an issue, as discussed a bit with other members, the protocol could switch to a bribes system etc.Schlitz

So afaik, for most of the integrations that are not directly tracked: rewards accrue to the integration's smart contract, then, these protocols can (or not) redistribute those rewards by themselves. Some of them are a bit limited because their SC has no claim/transfer option, but we'll be shipping a "proxy" for them to bypass that restriction.

So first of all I'm not sure what you mean by "surplus". As for the minting, $USUAL is disinflationnary, meaning: as the TVL grows, the revenue grows, and less $USUAL are minted. This increases the implied value per token, favors early participants, gives growth exposure, and increases the yield if the market prices it, creating a flywheel. Random example: - TVL is 300M, 1 $USUAL is minted for 10$ of revenue - TVL is 800M, 0.3 $USUAL is minted for 10$ of revenue Meaning, each token has more underlying value - or is "backed" by more revenue.
